Summer Aikido Program
Aikido classes will continue all summer. The summer is a fun, relaxed time to train. Please let me know if your child will miss part or all of a month. Remember that your child can attend days other than what they normally attend to make up classes. If you will miss a month and notify me, in advance, I can adjust the dues.
Summer Schedule
Promotions
Children will be demonstrating for promotions the week of June 3-6, in their regular classes, unless otherwise arranged. They will be receiving a new belt color to signify what they have learned during the time since their last promotion. If your child is getting a new belt, I would appreciate a $5 donation to the dojo, with your child's dues. Domo arigato. Children are encouraged to demonstrate. If they are not quite ready for the next level they will be invited to demonstrate something of their choice, from the next level and they will be awarded a stripe.Aiki-mites...
...are always on a "Rainbow Quest" and I will, from time to time, have them demonstrate for the next stripe.Who are sempai?
All the teaching in the dojo is done on a volunteer basis. While Mitch Sensei and I have decades of experience and professional level degrees in Aikido we volunteer to devote our time to the children of our community. Aiki Kids and Aiki Mites is also fortunate to have several people who devote time, skill and caring in helping out in the classes. Rieko sempai is a second degree black belt in Aikido and is the mom of Aiki Kid, Tenki. Anthony sempai is a long-time Aikido student and is the dad of Layla and Damiana, two Aiki Kids. Cindy is Cliff's mom. Cliff starts the Monday Aiki Kids class. Cliff sempai has trained for 12 years and is a junior blackbelt. Since Cliff is 16, his mom, Cindy, opens the dojo and stays there to answer questions until Mitch Sensei is able to arrive from work.
Dues and taking time off the mat...
Please pay your child's dues at the beginning of each month. Then, have your child train as often as possible. If you know that you will be gone for a month, please let me know prior to that month, so that I will hold the space and also not expect dues.
The dates for 2013 are posted under "Youth Program"...
These are posted on our website under "Programs." If the dojo is on holiday when your child usually trains, please feel free to come to another class. The Tuesday and Thursday classes are primarily for the teen group. The younger Aiki Kids can come in to make up classes or when a seasonal sport interferes with their Monday/Wednesday schedule. They will have a valuable experience with the teens that will be a variation on what they experience Mondays and Wednesdays. In Harmony,
Danielle Smith Sensei
